The annual winter-break brotherhood event was hosted in St. Louis, Missouri at the Holt residence. Fifteen Pi Kapps enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared by Mrs. Holt before departing by rail to the Scottrade Center to see the St. Louis Blues take on the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The men of the Delta Delta chapter firmly believe that each member is a Truman student first. This belief is embodied as a tenet of ПКФ distinction as men of CLASS (Character Leadership Academics Service Sportsmandship). As men of CLASS we realize the significance of a college education, and most importantly the importance of academic success during that time.
The Delta Delta chapter traces its roots to Oskaloosa, Iowa, home of six charter members, including ΔΔ1, Br. Chuck Bernard. Former ΠΚΦ director of Student Affairs Chuck Cummings, a childhood friend of Chuck, suggested these men start a colony at Northeast Missouri State (currently Truman State University).
Truman State University is dedicated to the success of Greek Life on campus. The Greek Life office is founded on the principles of scholarship, leadership, integrity, and commitment. Under these principles Greek organizations on campus seek to create positive change on the campus Truman State University and also promote a common Greek unity, regardless of organization. In 1776, our nation became free to determine its destiny on the will of its peoples. In that year, the world's most powerful brotherhood was born, the United States of America. In the same year our nation was born, so was a wonderful idea called the "college fraternity." Only this country has made the most of the personal bonds between students and the college fraternity. While to an outsider, all fraternities appear the same, they are actually quite different, each with its own unique personality and history. Pi Kappa Phi can trace its beginnings to a group of young students at the College of Charleston in
Pushups for Push is a biannual fundraiser for Push America. The active members of the chapter go out on to the quad and do pushups to raise funds and awareness for Push America.
No Boundaries Week
No Boundaries Week is a week long opportunity for the chapter to raise awareness about Push America on the campus of Truman State University. Much of the activity of No Boundaries Week is focused on the quad where a simulated Journey of Hope is conducted for 5 days, 24 hours a day. Members from every campus organization are invited to ride an hour or two on the two stationary bikes. No Boundaries Week is concluded with an Accessiblity project on the following Saturday.
Accessibility is an opportunity for the active chapter to go out into the community and really make a difference. Once each semester the active members will take a Saturday out of their schedule to build a wheel chair ramp for someone who is no longer able to access their home. The ramps are built in conjunction with the Rural Advocates for Independent Living.
Why? The Delta Delta Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi was founded on April, 29, 1972 at Truman State Universiy. Our eighteen charter members who started the organization wanted to create a fraternity of strong brotherhood and diversity. After 35 years we have initiated over seven hundred brothers and those same lasting ideals remain.
We are not a large fraternity on campus and we don't intend to be one.
Our medium size gives us the resources to be competitive on campus, whether it is scholastic achievements, intramural sports, homecoming, Greek Week, or any other activities we participate in. While at the same time we facilitate a close relationship between our members. Pi Kapps are not member of a social group; they are brothers.
Our chapter represents a diverse group of men from around the nation. Our brothers have a variety of majors and extracurricular interests such as sports, music, hunting, and volunteer work, to name a few. We want to attract men who are willing to uphold the traditions of our chapter and strive to become better men.
